Warriors have an offer for LeBron James, but can he afford to take it?

With LeBron James' contract with the Los Angeles Lakers finally expiring, the four-time NBA champion will test free agency again.

While a return to the Lakers is still in the cards, multiple teams will likely try to lure the future Hall of Famer.

Notably, that may include his bigger nemesis, the Golden State Warriors, though they may not have the most compelling offer.

According to Warriors insider Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard, the Dubs could offer him the non-taxpayer mid-level exception.

The Warriors could pursue LeBron James in free agency

"If they maneuver their roster and payroll just enough, the Warriors could offer LeBron the $15.1 million nontaxpayer midlevel exception, which is monumentally short of the $52.6 million he made this season but is more than some other possible teams could pay him," Kawakami wrote.

Of course, James can probably make much more money elsewhere. The Warriors, however, might give him the best chance to win another ring.

Stephen Curry is still at the peak of his powers, and he'd get to join his Klutch Sports colleague and close friend Draymond Green.

The Warriors could also keep Kristaps Porzingis, and Jimmy Butler might return at one point in the season.

General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. already pursued a trade for James, which is why Kawakami believes they'll be a player for his services again:

"I think the Warriors would be a very live option," added Kawakami. "Check that: I think the process has already started and the Warriors are a live option."

Even at this age, James was still an All-Star-caliber guy. Per Basketball Reference, he averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds while on 51.5% from the field and 31.7% from beyond the arc.

Now, he could make one final run at tying Kobe Bryant's five rings by joining the same team that prevented him from winning 3.
