The Las Vegas Raiders are one of the fascinating exciting teams in the NFL to watch right now. Why? It's their two superstar quarterbacks, of course. We're talking about Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza.
On one hand, you have Cousins, one of the most celebrated veteran quarterbacks of his generation. Then, you have Mendoza, one of the most likely star franchise quarterbacks of his generation. Seeing these two in action during the year should make for an exciting season.
But, the biggest win for the Raiders during the offseason wasn't getting Cousins or Mendoza. It's also not the involvement of partial owner Tom Brady, although that doesn't hurt. It's another new aspect of their franchise.
The Raiders have a new coach, and that's Klint Kubiak, who came from the Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks. This is their not-so-secret weapon in 2026.
In a piece out on Monday, Mike Jones of The Athletic names the Raiders one of the most-improved teams of the offseason. He mainly points to the addition of Kubiak.
"The Raiders landed one of the brightest offensive minds on the market in Klint Kubiak," he states in the piece, "who helped guide Sam Darnold and the Seahawks to Super Bowl glory. They used the top pick of the NFL Draft on Fernando Mendoza and will pair him with veteran Kirk Cousins, who will serve as the perfect mentor while also buying the Indiana product time to develop."
So, he gives the Raiders props for all of these moves. Now, add to that Maxx Crosby still being in Las Vegas, at least for now, and you have a much better lineup than the Raiders have seen for years. But, players mean nothing without a good coach, and that's why Kubiak is possibly the biggest win for the Raiders.
