The 2026 MLB season has come to the unofficial halfway point.
The All-Star Break is generally the perfect time to gauge a team's postseason chances. However, given the general mediocrity in the middle of each division, only seven teams will enter the break more than four games out of a playoff berth.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers (61-36)
One of the Dodgers biggest weaknesses may be about to end. Closer Edwin Diaz had his first rehab assignment on Sunday and averaged 96 MPH with his fastball, maxing out at 98 MPH. If he can return to form, the Dodgers will be all the more formidable.
2. Milwaukee Brewers (59-37)
The Brewers pitching fell apart over the weekend, culminating in a 14-5 beating by the Pirates. The Brewers have a formidable duo atop the rotation in Jacob Misiorowski and Kyle Harrison, but Harrison landed on the injured list on Saturday with left forearm tightness. Getting Harrison and Brandon Woodruff back from the IL could make a huge difference for the postseason.
3. Atlanta Braves (55-40)
The Braves continued to tread water over the past week, going 3-3 and 5-5 in their last 10 games. It would not be a surprise if the Braves made several impact moves over the coming weeks to improve the roster.
4. New York Yankees (54-42)
Outfielder Aaron Judge may not be back any time soon, which leaves a gaping hole in the middle of the Yankees lineup. The offense as a whole has struggled in his absence, making their issues at catcher, third base and shortstop all the more glaring.
5. Tampa Bay Rays (56-38)
Franchise icon Evan Longoria finally had his number 3 retired, the fourth number retired in Rays history. It is a long overdue honor as he was traded during the 2017-18 offseason and officially retired with a one-day contract with the Rays in 2025.
6. Chicago Cubs (54-42)
Third baseman Alex Bregman may finally be about to break out of his season-long slump. He belted a key two-run homer on Saturday as part of the Cubs comeback victory and had a season-high four RBI, including a three-run home run, on Sunday.
7. Pittsburgh Pirates (50-47)
The Pirates desperately need to address their bullpen. They did a fantastic job of overhauling the lineup during the offseason; now, general manager Ben Cherington needs to do the same with the relief corps.
8. Miami Marlins (52-45)
The Marlins stumbled into the All-Star Break, having lost three in a row. However, even with those losses, they are still one of the biggest surprises in the majors and should be a factor in the hunt for the postseason.
9. Chicago White Sox (50-45)
If the season ended now, the White Sox would have a first-round bye as the second seed in the American League. It is a remarkable turnaround for a franchise that lost over 100 games in each of the past three seasons, including a record 121 losses in 2024.
10. St. Louis Cardinals (50-45)
Outfielder Jordan Walker is heading to Philadelphia as the Cardinals' lone All-Star representative. It is a well-deserved honor as Walker is in the midst of an impressive breakout campaign, one worthy of down-ballot MVP consideration.
And the rest...
