Quarterback Sam Darnold won a Super Bowl in his very first year with the Seattle Seahawks. One might think that's enough for Darnold to earn a ranking as one of the top quarterbacks in the league. But, one would apparently be wrong.
It's wild to think about, but Darnold still isn't getting the respect he deserves in the NFL. Even after winning a Super Bowl. Even after hopping from franchise to franchise to finally land with a team that he could help lead to a championship.
On Monday, ESPN released its tally of the best quarterbacks in the league for 2026. For the rankings, written out by Jeremy Fowler, ESPN surveyed league executives, coaches and scouts to get their choices for the very best.
So, on their top 10 list, where does Darnold fall? He doesn't. He's actually just an honorable mention on the list. Even after a fresh Super Bowl win. It's a head-scratcher, but hopefully, Darnold isn't losing any sleep over it.
But, a few came to his defense. One "high-ranking AFC team official said, "What a career bounce-back. He's been lights-out for two years. Deserves to be in the top 10."
One NFL personnel evaluator said, "Playing to his strengths while playing disciplined, he can beat you with his arm. I think he can use his legs more. He's mobile."
So, they had nothing but good things to say about Darnold. But, he still didn't make the top 10, and that's a mistake.
