Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. shares blunt admission after heroics in win over Dodgers

New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. played the role of hero Sunday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel the Yankees to a 2-1 victory. 

Following the win, Chisholm spoke honestly about what he has and hasn't provided the Yankees throughout the season. 

Jazz Chisholm Jr. has "sucked all season"

"I’ve sucked all season," Chisholm admitted, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. "The numbers speak for themselves."

While the 55-44 Yankees are expected to make "a major splash" ahead of the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline, they also admittedly will need better from Chisholm over the next several months. He began Monday hitting just .224 for the season, and he accumulated 14 home runs with 38 RBI across his first 94 games of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Yankees slugger and team captain Aaron Judge hasn't played since the end of May due to a stress fracture of the first rib on his right side. He has not yet resumed baseball activities, and Newsday's Erik Boland is among those who have pointed out that it's fair to wonder if Judge will take another in-game swing before the regular season wraps up.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. confident in what Yankees can achieve

Regardless of what the Yankees do ahead of the trade deadline, the perception exists that they will not be a true World Series contender if they don't get Judge back in the lineup for the postseason tournament. Chisholm seems confident that the Bronx Bombers can give fans an October to remember later this year. 

"I feel like we match up against any team in the league," Chisholm added. "I feel like we beat ourselves a lot, and I feel like that stuff, we’re gonna clean up as it goes." 

That's all well and good, but Yankees fans will keep hoping to hear good news regarding Judge's recovery at some point over the next couple of weeks. As for the Yankees, they will begin a three-game home series versus the Pittsburgh Pirates (52-48) on Monday evening.
