A social media slip-up may have possibly revealed where LeBron James is headed.

Fans have been refreshing their social media feeds nonstop for weeks in anticipation of James’ free agency announcement. A few of them noticed some interesting activity on the Miami Heat’s official YouTube page.

The Heat account had a live stream scheduled for July 27 titled “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference.”

Once the post gained traction, it was quickly deleted.

The Heat addressed the social media snafu in a statement to the Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang. According to a Heat spokesperson, the live video was “mistakenly made public” by the team’s social media department, which was simply “preparing for the possibility” of James joining the Heat later in the offseason. The spokesperson reportedly added that there was “currently no validity to the video.”

Chiang noted that James has historically not informed teams of his decision until right before he publicly announces his choice. Considering how secretive James and agent Rich Paul have been throughout the offseason, that appeared to be the case again this time around.

The Heat may very well be doing damage control at this point so as not to spoil LeBron’s big announcement of a South Beach return. But some facts do seem to line up with the video being an honest mistake.

It’s also hard to imagine the Heat would inform anyone but the top brass of any looming James signing — let alone a social media person posting about a press conference days in advance. Such news would have spread well before July 27 if it trickled that far down the Miami chain of command.

The Heat have indeed remained one of James’ top destinations ahead of his record 24th NBA season. Whether or not the video scheduled for July 27 means anything, the team’s chances at landing LeBron for a second time are as real as ever.
