Sabrina Ionescu wraps up hectic day with individual rally in Liberty win

That late rally included her hitting two 3-pointers, while she also finished 5-for-7 on the night from 3-point range.

That is fitting because the day began with some controversy around her 3-point shooting ability.

There was a report that came out this week that said Ionescu declined to compete in the 3-point event at the league's All-Star game. She has won the event two times, including a record-setting performance at the 2023 competition. That is what made it such a surprise to see her not included in the list of participants this season, especially when word surfaced that it was her call.

She quickly and firmly shut that speculation down on Wednesday and made it very clear she wanted to compete. 

Ionescu is only shooting 28.3% from 3-point range this season, which is the lowest mark of her career. Still, All-Star games and All-Star events are not always about the most deserving or best in that season. It is often about the players fans want to see, and the players that will bring the most attention.

As one of the WNBA's best players, and as one of the best 3-point shooters of her era, it's understandable that people would want to see her take part. 

While she may not be in the field right now, she gave Liberty fans a taste of what she can do with 3-point shooting in situations that really matter -- clutch situations in games.
