Browns' Shedeur Sanders given fresh warning amid QB competition vs. Deshaun Watson

Multiple reports have indicated that first-year Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken would start veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson over second-year pro Shedeur Sanders if the Browns had to play a game over the first weekend of August. 

Along with being part of arguably the most-discussed quarterback competition in the NFL this summer, Sanders is a social-media phenom who has over 2.7 million followers on Instagram. He recently featured in a short film, and he also has a history of releasing music tracks. 

During a Thursday appearance on Cleveland sports radio station 92.3 The Fan, well-known NFL analyst Brian Baldinger sent somewhat of a warning to Sanders regarding the signal-caller's non-football interests. 

Browns want Shedeur Sanders to be fully focused on football amid Deshaun Watson competition? 

"I think it's pretty typecast what they want him to be," Baldinger said about what a team expects from a QB1. "They want him to be 24-7, because, honestly, it's tough enough to play at a high level and a consistent high level in this business. We see the turnover. We've seen the number of failures of No. 1 picks. Certainly, Cleveland has seen their share of No. 1 picks just fizzle, if they ever even got started."

Of course, it remains to be seen how Sanders would react if he loses the starting job to Watson. Earlier in the offseason, rumors surfaced claiming that the Browns could trade Sanders if Watson is named the starter. However, it now seems like QB3 Dillon Gabriel is more likely to be traded before August comes to an end. 

Shedeur Sanders shouldn't "have time to do anything else but prepare" to play football

"The offseason is the offseason," Baldinger added about Sanders' off-the-field activities. "But, once the season starts, I don't think there's any time to do any of this stuff. Whether it's going into a recording studio or doing some fashion show, whatever. I don't see how any quarterback in this league could possibly have time to do anything else but prepare for the next weekend's game."

Sanders will get an opportunity to show how prepared he is to face live defenses when the Browns open the preseason with a matchup at the Chicago Bears on Aug. 15. If he plays poorly on that Saturday, some may question if he is truly committed to attempting to serve as Cleveland's Week 1 starter.
