Clarity emerges on Draymond Green's Warriors future after LeBron James snub

The Golden State Warriors couldn't seal the deal with their preferred free-agency target.

Once again, they couldn't convince LeBron James to take his talents to the Bay Area, not even despite his close relationship with Draymond Green.

Green opted out of his contract to give the team financial flexibility to potentially add LeBron, but to no avail. Since he's a free agent, some speculated he could follow James wherever he went.

Nevertheless, a report by The Athletic revealed that Green still intends to return to the Warriors and will receive a lucrative incentive to do so.

“Green even opted out of his contract at the 11th hour to give the Warriors maximum flexibility to sign James and to perhaps trade Butler for Anthony Davis, but 'it happened without any indication that it would happen,' a team source said. The Warriors are now expected to re-sign Green to roughly the same dollar amount — nearly $28 million — of the player’s option he declined last month,” read the report.

This is probably the right move for Green. He's always spoken highly of LeBron, sometimes at Steph Curry's expense, and he's also been critical of coach Steve Kerr, but he's still the team's emotional catalyst.

Not many players get to spend their entire careers with an organization, much less win multiple championships next to one of the greatest players to ever do it.

The Warriors might reconsider trading him at some point. But for now, it looks like he won't be able to fulfill his dream of teaming up with his favorite player and close friend.
