Kyler Murray projected to 'rescue' Vikings amid J.J. McCarthy competition

As the Minnesota Vikings' season creeps closer, the quarterback question gets bigger and bigger. The signal-caller, of course, is the heart of any team. It's the position that gets the brightest lights. So, with Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy battle going strong, it's a fun storyline to watch.

Fun for us. Not so fun for Murray and McCarthy. But, there's nothing wrong with a healthy quarterback competition this time of year.

Kyler Murray gets heaps of praise heading into new season

Bucky Brooks of the NFL's website believes Murray is going to "rescue" the Vikings. Why? Because of head coach Kevin O'Connell's direction.

O'Connell "has a chance to fully restore his reputation as a quarterback guru by transforming Murray into an unstoppable force in the Vikings' scheme," Brooks noted.

"On a one-year, 'prove it' deal with Minnesota, Kyler still has to beat out J.J. McCarthy for the job, but I believe he can quickly rediscover his game in a quarterback-friendly offense that features an elite WR1 in Justin Jefferson and talented complementary playmakers in Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson," Brooks continued.

Perhaps Murray is set for a career resurgence as he joins a team loaded with weapons that is led by a coach that is considered a quarterback guru.
