Raiders' Fernando Mendoza says how he really feels about Kirk Cousins QB battle

It's official: Fernando Mendoza has signed his deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, and he's in the books for this upcoming season. It's about time, right?

It's actually not super strange for a rookie quarterback to wait to sign. That's the norm with the biggest rookies quarterbacks. So, the delay wasn't anything that should have worried the Raiders. But, it's still nice to get it done.

After signing, Mendoza talked about the situation he's facing with Kirk Cousins, who's also, of course, one of the Raiders' quarterbacks. He assured those in Las Vegas this is isn't going to be some nasty quarterback battle. Instead, these guys are working together, as they should.

After signing his deal, Mendoza opened up about Cousins.

"Everybody in the quarterback room is a top-tier quarterback and it's going to be competing with each other, not competing against each other," he said, according to the Raiders' official site and NFL.com.

He added, "Being a part of the Silver and Black, we want to compete every single day and do the best that we can for the organization and best for the team so we can win games."

Grant Gordon of NFL.com notes that Cousins is largely "expected to begin the season as the Las Vegas Raiders starting quarterback," even though that's not official. It would be silly to bench Cousins, who's a veteran and can hit the ground running. But, it will be exciting when Mendoza gets his chance.
