Notre Dame, USC announce renewal of storied rivalry

After the 2024 college football season, fans were left wondering if the storied rivalry between the USC Trojans and Notre Dame Fighting Irish would be continued.

The two sides hadn't agreed to more games and there were no indications that an agreement for future games was close.

That all changed on Monday, though, as the two programs took to social media to announce the renewal of one of the best rivalries in the history of college football.

Four-game series beginning in 2030 has been agreed to

In a post first shared by the official USC X account, the program announced that a new four-game series between the Trojans and Fighting Irish will take place starting in 2030.

The teams will play each year from 2030-33, with the games in 2030 and 2032 taking place at the L.A. Coliseum and the games in 2031 and 2033 taking place at Notre Dame.

A quick look into the rivalry

The rivalry dates all the way back to 1926 and the two programs met nearly every season from 1926-2024.

Notre Dame leads the all-time series 51-37-5 and has won seven of the last eight games between the schools.

What will the college football landscape look like in 2030?

With over four years until the next game between Notre Dame and USC, there is still so much that could and likely will change in the world of college football.

Will the SEC still be a part of the Power 4? Will Marcus Freeman and Lincoln Riley still be the coaches at their respective programs? There are so many unknowns about how college football will look when this historic rivalry is continued.
