Patriots WR A.J. Brown makes statement with both words, actions

Motivated to prove himself to his new team, A.J. Brown made a statement with both his words and actions on Monday.

About two months into his tenure with the New England Patriots, who traded for Brown on June 1, the former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver persevered through a dislocated thumb before sharing why he's ready to take his game to another level in 2026.

Brown suffered the minor injury in the morning and was still heavily involved during practice with his team later that day. He also still smiled his way through an interview with NFL Network.

After trying to alleviate any concern about his thumb by saying he experienced the same thing in college, Brown talked about his mindset as a physical receiver.

"I physically want to impose my will each and every play. It's not for everybody to understand," explained Brown.

"When I'm out here, I go into a whole other zone, a whole other state. 'It's me vs. you, so I like to use the reference of me in a boxing match.'"

A.J. Brown has been one of the most consistent WRs in the NFL

Brown's physicality is a big part of what makes him one of the NFL's elite wide receivers. His consistent production is another factor, and why the Patriots were interested in acquiring him in the first place.

Brown is coming off a 2025 season that saw him record his fourth-straight season with over 1,000 yards. He caught 78 balls for 1,003 yards in just 15 games. Brown also scored seven touchdowns, finding the end zone at least seven times for the fourth consecutive year.

Providing Drake Maye a true No. 1 wide receiver like Brown will only help to make his life easier and take the Patriots offense to a new level. And if Brown can continue where he left off in Philadelphia, he could be the difference that Maye, who finished second for league MVP honors, and the Patriots, the AFC champions who lost in the Super Bowl, need to get over the hump this coming fall and winter.

Making the partnership between Brown and New England a perfect marriage, the three-time Pro Bowler appears ready to find happiness again after continuously voicing his frustration with the Eagles in recent years, even following a Super Bowl LIX championship two season ago.
