Kings linked to two All-Star guards to mentor Darius Acuff Jr.

The Sacramento Kings seem to be looking for All-Star guards off the discount rack.

The Kings drafted a promising young guard last month in Acuff, who projects to be a high-level scorer after a stellar season at Arkansas. Sacramento reportedly wants to make sure he has the right mentor by his side, at least for his rookie campaign.

According to NBA reporter Jake Fischer, the Kings have been sifting through a bevy of veteran guards to help bring Acuff along. Per the report, Sacramento has considered both Russell Westbrook and Victor Oladipo to fill that role.

Westbrook was the Kings’ starting point guard for most of last season and reportedly served as “a leading voice” in the team’s locker room throughout a rough 22-60 campaign. While Westbrook remains a polarizing figure among fans and media members, particularly for his erratic play on the court, the former NBA MVP has maintained a reputation for being a beloved figure in the locker room.

An Oladipo signing would be an interesting move for the Kings, given that the former All-Star shooting guard has been practically begging teams to give him a look after three seasons away from the NBA. The 34-year-old last played for the Miami Heat in the 2022-23 season.

While Oladipo will likely take any deal he can get, the Kings have some competition for Westbrook’s services. At least one Western Conference playoff team is reportedly interested in the 9-time All-Star.
