Pass rush a growing concern for Falcons following Jalon Walker injury

Atlanta's pass rush could be severely compromised with Walker possibly out for the season. In ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler's report from Falcons camp, he noted the team also anticipates fellow 2025 first-round pick James Pearce Jr., who led the team with 10.5 sacks as a rookie, will be suspended following his offseason arrest in a domestic abuse case.

"The Falcons have been looking for a potential pass-rush addition," Fowler wrote.

With few strong options this late in the offseason, Atlanta's unlikely to find anyone capable of fully replicating the lost production. 

Veteran Leonard Floyd, who turns 34 on Sept. 8, remains on the market after spending the 2025 season with the Falcons and totaling 3.5 sacks, his fewest since 2019. Longtime veterans Joey Bosa, 31, and Jihad Ward, 32, are two other top remaining edge-rushers but can only be expected to provide so much at this stage of their careers.

It's a good thing the front office got deals done with Kyle Pitts, Drake London and Bijan Robinson before next offseason. All may have to put up big numbers to make up for the depleted pass rush, which would only make them more expensive at the negotiating table.

Following Walker's injury, the Falcons may soon get another crash course in how quickly things can change in the NFL. Only nine months ago, Atlanta appeared to have solved an inept pass rush after years of inadequate production; from 2021-24, no team produced fewer sacks (112). It's once again an issue, and there doesn't appear to be an easy fix.
