Historic Fever backcourt shines in potentially costly win over Sky

Indiana Fever guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell remained the league's hottest duo on Saturday in Chicago, but unless the league intervenes, they won't be together for the team's pivotal next game.

Clark and Mitchell combined for 53 points in a 90-86 win over the Chicago Sky, with Clark finishing with 26 points and 11 assists on 7-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Mitchell led the Fever with 27 points, shooting 11-of-22. Per the ESPN broadcast, it marked the eighth time this season the teammates have each scored 25 points in the same game, the second-most in WNBA history.

But during the second half, Clark received a dubious technical foul, her eighth of the season, putting the 2024 Rookie of the Year in line to miss Tuesday's home game against the New York Liberty (19-13), who are eighth in the league standings but only a game behind the Fever (20-12) for fourth.

Clark was penalized for making contact with a referee along the baseline late in the third quarter, although it appeared far from intentional and more the result of the star Fever guard's momentum carrying her out of bounds and into the path of the official.
