Caitlin Clark gets called for the softest technical foul

Caitlin Clark is facing a suspension after picking up a pretty ridiculous technical foul on Saturday.

The Indiana Fever guard was given her eighth technical of the season late in the third quarter during Saturday’s game against the Chicago Sky at United Center in Chicago. The cause of that technical, it seemed, was Clark accidentally colliding with an official after she did not draw a foul while driving to the basket.

Clark was utterly baffled by the call, and coach Stephanie White picked up a technical of her own for protesting it.

Clark’s contact with the official seemed incidental at best, nor did it look like she said all that much beyond a basic protest over the lack of a foul call. The official seemed to believe there was some force or intent behind the contact.

As this was Clark’s eighth technical foul of the season, she will be suspended for the team’s next game against New York unless it is rescinded by the WNBA. She has been aware of this possibility, which is why she has been so frustrated in the past over what she felt were weak technicals called against her.

Considering how physical the rest of this game was, the call on Clark seems to be pretty soft in any context.
