Chiefs share big Mansoor Delane injury update ahead of preseason opener

The Kansas City Chiefs pulled some strings to get their hands on LSU star Mansoor Delane.

The CB1 in the class, the Chiefs had to trade up to No. 6 to draft him, hoping to make him Trent McDuffie's replacement.

However, the talented cornerback has missed some reps in training camp, as he's dealing with a shoulder injury that has prompted concern and frustration among the fan base.

That should no longer be the case, as it seems like it's just a matter of days before he's fully cleared.

Mansoor Delane might be fully cleared in the next week

“Starting first with Mansoor, he had a shoulder blade right toward the end of OTAs,” Chiefs general manager Veach said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “And so we don’t think it’s going to be long-term or anything, but that has to just completely heal.”

Per the executive, Delane might finally be cleared to practice without limitations in the next week:

“There’s nothing limiting him out there. He’s been taking all the 7-on-7 reps and just not the team periods and the contact stuff,” Veach said. “We want to leave him out of that right now, but I would say in the next 7-8 days, he’ll probably get the green light to do everything. So, we’re excited about him.”

The Chiefs will host the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, Aug. 15, for their preseason opener, so their prized first-round pick will have to wait a little longer before putting the pads on and showing what he can do.

This is a marathon, not a sprint, and the Chiefs are doing the right thing by taking things slowly with Delane.

Patrick Mahomes is coming off the first serious injury of his career, and the last thing they need right now is another major injury setback.
