Mike Macdonald explains why Seahawks signed Terrion Arnold despite legal case

In one of the most controversial moves of the offseason, the defending champions are adding more talent.

The Seattle Seahawks will sign Terrion Arnold, who was recently released by the Detroit Lions due to eight felony charges in connection with a February robbery and kidnapping.

Arnold's legal situation is still ongoing, but the fact that multiple teams worked him out and the Seahawks signed him suggests evidence might help his case.

Regardless, head coach Mike Macdonald claimed that, upon doing their due diligence on him and reaching out to people close to him, they felt comfortable making this move.

The Seahawks believe in Terrion Arnold

“There are a lot of people in Terrion's corner that we respect in terms of (their view of) the type of guy he is,” said Macdonald, per Brady Henderson.

The Seahawks had already done extensive research on him before the NFL Draft.

Also, backup quarterback Jalen Milroe is one of Arnold's closest friends from their days at Alabama, so he may have vouched for him:

“It's a situation where there are other things that are surrounding it. We're aware of that. But we're working through the situation right now. But it was a great visit. I really enjoyed meeting him, and I think he enjoyed being here, so we'll see where it goes,” said Macdonald.

The defending Super Bowl champions drafted multiple defensive backs this offseason, but they were more than set at cornerback with Josh Jobe and Devon Witherspoon.

That said, Arnold is a former first-round pick in his third year, and while he hasn't looked the part since he entered the league, he might feel right at home in Coach Macdonald's complex scheme and the Seahawks' elite secondary.

He might still face discipline at some point, but the Seahawks can certainly afford to be without him for as long as the league considers pertinent.
