Beanie Bishop's play in Bears' debut builds case to make main roster

Bishop's fight to become a permanent fixture on an NFL roster started when he was waived as part of the Pittsburgh Steelers' final cuts at the end of August a year ago. At the time, Bishop, who went undrafted in 2024 despite his college success, was looking to build off a productive rookie season. 

Bishop made big plays as a rookie with the Steelers 

In 2024, Bishop recorded 45 total tackles, with 30 credited as solo, while playing in all 17 regular-season games, including making six starts. He finished the year with seven pass deflections, four interceptions, most notably a game-sealing one off his eventual teammate Aaron Rodgers, a forced fumble and half of a sack. 

A frustrated Bishop issued a message to the NFL upon his release by Pittsburgh via the outlet Steelers Now.  

 "So I’ll essentially set the league on fire, bro, whenever I get to play again. So that’s just how I look at it, just add more motivation, fuel to the fire, so." 

While there's still no guarantee Bishop makes the Bears' main roster either, all he can do is to continue to create highlights and put his skills on display. If Chicago ends up not working out, it will then only take one more team to take notice of a motivated player with a track record of making plays.
