Big update emerges on Jazz Chisholm’s future amid his struggles

The New York Yankees appear to have seen enough out of Jazz Chisholm.

New York is not expected to tender a qualifying offer to their veteran infielder Chisholm this offseason, Greg Joyce of The New York Post reports this week. Joyce says Chisholm is expected to sign elsewhere as a free agent instead.

Chisholm, 28, is currently having a brutal season with the Yankees. Through 113 games, Chisholm has played barely above replacement level, batting .216 with 17 home runs and 48 RBIs.

The two-time All-Star Chisholm also has a tendency to make headlines for his immature behavior. Earlier this season, Yankees manager Aaron Boone even called out Chisholm for an unprofessional move during a game.

Chisholm’s unpredictable nature was tolerable for New York last season when he posted a 30-30 year for them and won a Silver Slugger Award. But now Chisholm’s production is no longer justifying the other extra baggage that he comes with.

On a one-year qualifying offer, Chisholm would be able to rebuild his short-term value in 2027 or would otherwise make the Yankees eligible for a compensatory draft pick if he opted to sign elsewhere instead. But it looks like New York is ready to turn the page entirely on the lefty-hitting Chisholm, who will likely now be free to sign with any team this winter as a free agent.
