Fans of the New York Jets may have feared the worst when they learned on Monday that running back Breece Hall exited practice early after he went down untouched while running after catching a pass in the open field.
While speaking with reporters following practice, second-year Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that Hall is dealing with a strained groin.
"I don’t think it was a big deal, but I want to make sure I get the evaluation on that," Glenn said about Hall's setback, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "The one good thing about our players, they’re honest with their injuries. And if they can go, they can go. But we will try to be precautionary with a lot of those, to make sure that we do the right things."
One would think that the Jets will now hold Hall out for their preseason game at the Pittsburgh Steelers this coming Friday evening. The Jets will then wrap the preseason up with a contest against the New York Giants on Aug. 28.
Hall recorded career highs of 243 carries and 1,065 rushing yards during the 2025 season, Glenn's first as the Jets' head coach. The 25-year-old is expected to once again lead the team in touches for the upcoming campaign.
Earlier this year, the Jets retained Hall's rights via the franchise tag. The two sides eventually agreed to a three-year deal reportedly worth up to $47.75M.
John Flanigan of SNY noted that third-year running back Braelon Allen could be the next man up on the Jets' depth chart if Hall misses more than practice time. Last season, Allen was limited to just four games because of a knee injury.
As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Jets third among the betting favorites at +850 odds to finish the 2026 season with the fewest wins in the league. Glenn and Co. will hope to have a healthy Hall in the lineup when the Jets open the campaign with a matchup at the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 13.
