Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark was glad to see that the Atlanta Dream's last-minute shot attempts to win their game Sunday against the Fever didn't work. She was so happy, in fact, that she had quite a reaction to it.
Rhyne Howard, Angel Reese and Naz Hillmon all tried but failed to sink shots as the clock ticked down to zero with the game's score tied at 81-81. Cameras spotted Clark smiling and chuckling as she walked toward the Fever bench after the buzzer sounded.
Indiana won the game, 95-91, in overtime.
After the game, the Dream stood up for each other.
"It happens," the Dream's Allisha Gray said of Reese's unsuccessful shot. "We know any other time, Angel will make the shot. She knows she'll make the shot. In that moment, you've just got to encourage your teammates."
Reese has nothing to cry about, though. She notched another double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. But, that unsuccessful layup was a pattern for the game. She finished 5-of-16 from the floor and didn't even score in the fourth quarter.
The Fever are now fourth in the rankings and have a 1.5-game lead on the Dream. That made Sunday's game extra important.
Indiana is now on a roll. The team has won four games in a row. It's the right time to peak, too, as the season's end nears.
