Longtime Orioles player Trey Mancini retires after inspirational MLB career

Longtime Baltimore Orioles player Trey Mancini has officially announced his retirement from MLB following his comeback with the Los Angeles Angels this season.

In his limited role with the Angels across 13 at-bats, he hit .308 with four hits, a run and a .748 OPS. The first baseman and outfielder spent part of six seasons as an Oriole (2016-2022) and played 701 of his 836 career MLB games with them.

He was absent from the 2020 season battling colon cancer but was eventually declared cancer-free. He demonstrated remarkable resilience, beating the disease through surgery and chemotherapy and then returned to win the AL Comeback Player of the Year award in 2021.

He also won a World Series title with the Houston Astros in 2022; he played eight seasons in MLB, also spending the 2023 season with the Chicago Cubs. The 34-year-old had an outstanding career that demonstrated perseverance, and fans can now tip their hats off to a player whose comeback ability will forever be remembered.

Trey Mancini's emotional career will remain memorable

Mancini has made two noteworthy comebacks in MLB and has made a profound impact on the game. When he officially made the announcement of his retirement on Instagram, he also wrote “To every fan, especially those in Birdland— your support over the years meant the world to me.”

Orioles fans and players will cherish the memories and commemorate him as one of the best who helped lead them to a 2022 World Series.

In his heartfelt and inspiring career, he hit .263 with 129 home runs, 404 RBI and a .775 OPS, and his success story will leave a massive mark and positively influence young players today.

Mancini also prospered as an Astro, and will be remembered in Astros postseason history for the strong defensive play he made in Game 5 of the 2022 World Series.
