Broncos players send Bo Nix warnings to NFL ahead of 2026 season

Questions about how quarterback Bo Nix will play coming off the broken ankle he suffered this past January have hovered over the Denver Broncos throughout 2026.

Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post spoke with multiple Broncos players who shared warnings for the rest of the NFL regarding how a healthy Nix will perform this coming fall. 

Bo Nix "playing out of his mind" this summer

"He’s playing out of his mind," Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton said about Nix. 

Thus far, Nix has gone 24-10 as a regular-season starter, and he would have had an opportunity to guide the Broncos to a Super Bowl appearance this past January had he not gone down with his injury. Per Pro Football Reference, Nix finished the 2025 regular season tied for 15th in the NFL among qualified players with a 58.3 adjusted QBR and tied for 26th with an 87.8 passer rating. Those and other numbers show there's room for improvement regarding Nix's development, but he seems to be embracing such challenges. 

"I think he’s letting things that are out of his control not bother him," Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey said about Nix. "I think, as a young player, you think you need to take on every challenge and take on all these different things. Bo is now learning, 'Hey, that can be a waste of my energy, but that isn’t.' He’s learning how to pick his spots. He’s learning what to get fired up about, what to fight the things he doesn’t like and let the things go that maybe don’t really matter."

"Everything’s lining up really well" for Bo Nix to win big with Broncos?

Following the Broncos' 10-7 loss to the New England Patriots in last season's AFC Championship Game, Denver parted ways with offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. Head coach Sean Payton eventually promoted passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Davis Webb to the role of OC, and Payton has since delegated offensive play-calling duties to a coordinator for the first time during his career as a head coach.

"He knows the ins and outs of the offense. He’s comfortable with the offensive line," backup quarterback Sam Ehlinger added about Nix. "…He has a ton of reps. Add up how many reps he’s had in the regular seasons, and that’s a lot of ball. He knows all the receivers and all the running backs too. He’s making great decisions. He’s always been really talented as a thrower, but you can really tell that everything’s lining up really well for him."

Nix's history of ankle issues could spark concerns about his long-term health. That said, he could give Broncos fans a February to remember if he can remain in the lineup through Denver's final game of the upcoming campaign.
