Jerry Jones, Cowboys projected to sign biggest free agent left on the market

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are busy this season. They've made big moves. This team totally overhauled its defense and worked to keep key offensive players in the 2026 offseason, most notably trading for pass-rusher Rashan Gary and signing safety Jalen Thompson.

So, the Cowboys are looking good, but good may not be enough. They want to look, and perform, great. That's why this team could still find it in them to snag a player being called the best remaining free agent on the market.

In a piece for Bleacher Report out on Wednesday, Kristopher Knox names the top three remaining free agents on the market, and he has linebacker Bobby Wagner as No. 1. Knox also projects that the Cowboys will get him.

Cowboys could land top free agent Bobby Wagner

"When it comes to big names left on the market, there is none bigger than Bobby Wagner," he says. "The future Hall of Famer is a six-time first-team All-Pro who has racked up 2,000 tackles over 14 seasons. He also remains a starting-caliber off-ball linebacker."

Last season was a stellar one for Wagner. He started all 17 games for the Washington Commanders and produced 162 tackles, 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss and two interceptions.

"Wagner may want to skip the rigors of training camp and land with a team after roster cuts, but the 36-year-old is likely to play again in 2026," Knox adds. "The prediction here is that he jumps from one NFC East team to another."

The Cowboys could use more beef at his position, so this is a fit that simply makes sense.
