Giants' Rafael Devers joins Barry Bonds on multiple franchise all-time lists

Though the San Francisco Giants failed to win on Wednesday and, in fact, blew a six-run lead in the ninth inning to the Cincinnati Reds, Rafael Devers still made history.

Doing what he does best, especially recently, Devers went yard in the fifth inning, clubbing a two-run blast out of the ballpark and into McCovey Cove.

By hitting his third home run in as many games, Devers now has 29 on the year. This puts him one away from becoming only the second Giants player to reach 30 home runs in a season since 2005.

He would be the first, but Willy Adames got there on the final day of the season last year, making it likely Devers ends up with the most of anyone during that span, a span that does include a couple of Barry Bonds' seasons.

But in addition to displaying more power than anyone on a franchise that has won three World Series titles during that same timeframe, Devers now has 17 home runs at Oracle Park this season, the most since Bonds connected on 26 in 2004.

Devers, 29, and Bonds — he did it five times — are actually the only other Giants players ever to hit as many at Oracle Park or any of its previous names.

And for another list that Devers sits behind Bonds, he's now second, just ahead of Willie Mays, for the most home runs from a player in his first 225 games with the Giants. Devers now has 49, which trails Bonds' 61.

While he's not having a Bonds-like monster season overall, Devers, who was a three-time All-Star and member of the 2018 World Series champions during his time with the Boston Red Sox, is seven more home runs away from setting a new career-high. With seven more, he would surpass the 35 total he put up with both Boston and then the Giants after being traded to San Francisco.

Devers also has 76 RBI and 74 runs scored in exactly 500 at-bats in 133 games. His current slash line stands at .246/.324/.486.
