Details emerge on Jazz Chisholm’s expected offseason outcome

Jazz Chisholm might have to take something of a “prove it” deal this offseason.

The New York Yankees infielder Chisholm is expected to have a market this winter but may end up taking a short-term deal with an opt-out after the first season. Robert Murray of FanSided reported this week on the “The Baseball Insiders” podcast. Murray adds that Chisholm could potentially end up with a deal structure similar to what New York Mets shortstop Bo Bichette got last offseason.

For reference, Bichette, 28, got a three-year, $126 million from the Mets. Bichette can also test free agency this offseason thanks to having an opt-out after Year 1.

Chisholm, also 28, might not come close to that financial figure though. After all, he is having a down 2026 season, batting just .226 with a .708 OPS (albeit with 18 homers, 53 RBIs, and an AL-leading 36 stolen bases).

But the deal structure could indeed end up being similar to that of Bichette’s contract. Chisholm is a two-time All-Star who won a Silver Slugger Award last season and also joined the 30-30 club, and he is still young to be able to bet on himself having a superb bounceback campaign in 2027.

Of course, Chisholm’s new contract might end up coming from a new team. We did hear earlier this month that the Yankees are not expected to bring back Chisholm as a free agent this winter.
