Odell Beckham Jr. makes promise to John Harbaugh after making Giants' 53-man roster

The reunion involving the New York Giants and veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will continue through at least a portion of September, as it was learned ahead of the NFL's roster cutdown deadline on Sunday that he had made the Giants' initial 53-man roster.

Beckham later spoke with NFL insider Josina Anderson about being given a chance to once again play for the club that selected him in the first round of the 2014 draft.

"I am excited," Beckham said. "I found out when I was walking off the field. [Head coach John Harbaugh] said congratulations, and he said that I worked hard. I told him I will give him everything I got. He said, 'Let’s go do it.'"

Sunday's development was expected after Giants wide receiver Calvin Austin III suffered a torn ACL during a practice. Later, Harbaugh insisted that Beckham had "done enough" throughout training camp and the preseason to make the team's roster. 

Beckham earned three Pro Bowl nods while with the Giants from 2014 through the 2018 campaign. That said, the 33-year-old has since dealt with numerous concerning injuries, and he hasn't played in a regular-season game since he was with the Miami Dolphins in December 2024. That season, he tallied just nine catches for 55 yards over nine games.

Beckham told Anderson that quarterbacks Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston both showed love after OBJ found out he had made the roster. 

"Everybody gave me love," Beckham added. "Now I just got to go get it. I have one more gear to go; one more gear in me. I came to New York to give my all, and that's what they’re going to get out of me. To the city, to the fans, I love you."

Beckham doesn't need to be what he was while in his prime to hold onto his roster spot through Week 18. If he can prove to be somewhat of a security blanket for Dart during the signal-caller's second pro campaign, Beckham could become more than just a feel-good story regarding the 2026 Giants.

As Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News noted, Beckham is expected to once again wear jersey No. 13 with the Giants after the club waived 2023 third-round pick Jalin Hyatt.
