Myles Garrett has seemingly changed in a big way since joining Rams

Shortly after the Los Angeles Rams completed a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns to land star pass-rusher Myles Garrett this past June, a report noted that Garrett "wasn’t the great unifier the Browns always hoped he’d be" when Cleveland made him the first overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. 

It seems like Rams players have seen a different version of Garrett this summer. 

Sarah Barshop of ESPN shared how Rams outside linebacker Byron Young recently said that Garrett is "absolutely 'changing the culture'" for the franchise with the way he conducts himself.B

How Myles Garrett is improving the Rams' culture

"We were about to leave yesterday, and he said, 'We're not going to break it down?'" Young said about Garrett during training camp. "I was like, 'We're breaking down in the meeting room?' And he said, 'Yeah, we're going to break it down in here.' So I said, 'OK!' That's a piece of the culture that he's bringing in."

Garrett received criticism from media personalities and from former teammates about his supposed lack of leadership qualities during portions of his time with the Browns. After he signed a four-year, $160M extension that included $123.5M guaranteed in March 2025, Browns co-owner Jimmy Haslam acknowledged that the organization had "challenged" Garrett "to become a real leader of the team."

Garrett is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year who is seen by many as a future Hall of Famer. That said, the 30-year-old played in only three playoff games and one postseason victory while with the Browns. 

Garrett is now with a club that was expected to compete for more than a playoff berth even before superstar defensive lineman Aaron Donald ended his retirement and returned to the Rams. Per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, the Rams went from being +550 favorites to win Super Bowl LXI to being +500 favorites after the Donald news broke.

Myles Garrett quickly embraced what the Rams are about

"...He's done a great job of just figuring out what we're about, understanding how we go about things, and fitting right in," Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford added about Garrett. "I mean, it's hard not to when you're as good a player as he is."

It sounds like Garrett is quite happy he was traded from the Browns to the Rams.
