Justin Herbert’s brother Patrick makes obvious choice after being waived by Jaguars

Teams across the NFL are finalizing their 53-man rosters and practice squads going into Week 1.

On Monday, the Los Angeles Chargers added a former tight end from the Jacksonville Jaguars who knows quarterback Justin Herbert very well.

That would be Patrick Herbert, the brother of  Justin Herbert

The Jaguars waived Patrick Herbert on Sunday, and despite offers from multiple teams, he now heads to L.A. to play with his brother.

The Chargers added Patrick Herbert to the practice squad, but he is joined by Evan Svoboda as the tight ends on the L.A. practice squad.

The Chargers have four tight ends on the 53-man roster, with Charlie Kolar, Oronde Gadsden and David Njoku as the first three.

Patrick and Justin played just one season together in college with the Oregon Ducks, which came in 2019, Justin's final season before going to the NFL.

In the 2026 preseason, Patrick Herbert had just two catches for 12 yards with the Jaguars.

At the end of the day, it's a fun reunion for the Herbert brothers, and it will be worth watching to see if he gets the call to the 53-man roster at some point this season.
