Clemson informs LSU of a potential breach of contract for Saturday's showdown

The LSU Tigers are set to host the Clemson Tigers on Saturday in a primetime showdown as the college football season begins in full force. Unfortunately, the focus has shifted away from the game itself in recent days.

The issue at hand: LSU is prepared to allow players who spent time in NFL training camps to be on the roster. The matter is currently playing out in the courts.

Tight end Dae'Quan Wright, who spent time this summer with both the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns, declared he is ready to go for Saturday.

BREAKING: Clemson has notified LSU that playing former professional players on Saturday may breach the game contract between the schools, per a copy of an email obtained by Yahoo Sports' @RossDellenger.

Ross Dellenger at Yahoo! Sports reports that Clemson notified LSU of a potential breach of contract if the Tigers allow a player who spent time in an NFL camp to play in the game. Dellenger's report also notes that Clemson is not seeking financial damages and still intends to play. The latter is great news for all involved, notably the fans who are excited for a big matchup early in the season.

The evolving situation will surely have more updates ahead of kickoff on Saturday (7:30 PM EST).

There are no guarantees that LSU head coach Lane Kiffin will play anyone who spent time in an NFL training camp, but doing so could represent the start of a dramatic shift in college football.
