Lions could get 'back to top' by stealing a Steeler

The Detroit Lions were at the bottom of the NFC North when they rounded out the season at the end of last year. That wasn't a great place to be, especially when just one year prior, they were on top.

It was a frustrating situation, and because of it, head coach Dan Campbell brought in offensive coordinator Drew Petzing to take over. Will it help? We'll find out soon enough.

But having a beefier defense could certainly help this situation. Now, one bold trade prediction has the Lions doing just that.

Joey Porter Jr. could give the Lions' defense a boost

In a piece out on Friday, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report discusses some bold trades that could happen this season. He sees the Lions snagging Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick.

Frankly, a first-rounder to the Steelers for Porter is huge. But he thinks the player is worth it.

In the piece, Knox notes that the Steelers "would certainly prefer to keep starting cornerback Joey Porter Jr. However, their desire to delay contract talks with him may force Pittsburgh to consider a trade instead."

He even goes so far as to say that "after missing the playoffs in 2025, the Lions are undoubtedly eager to get back to the top of the NFC North mountain. They could also use a new starter after parting with 2024 first-round pick Terrion Arnold this offseason."

As a season, Porter had 52 total tackles, 14 passes defensed, and one interception. Those numbers certainly wouldn't hurt the Lions, so it's easy to see how he could benefit the team.
