First vision of new stadium for White Sox in Chicago unveiled

With the Chicago White Sox holding first place in the American League Central, there are plenty of reasons to be excited on the South Side right now.

On Saturday, that excitement level may be have been raised to a whole other level for some by an off-the-field glimpse into the potential future of the organization.

However, not everyone shared the enthusiasm.

White Sox minority partner Justin Ishbia and Canal Edge, a Chicago developer he controls, unveiled renderings for a new stadium in the south loop of Chicago that would be the future home of the White Sox. The location would be just under three miles north of the current home of the White Sox, Rate Field, which has been the home of the team since 1991.

What could new Chicago White Sox stadium look like?

Ishbia has a deal in place with White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf to potentially take over the White Sox between 2029 and 2034, so the timing of the stadium could fall during that stretch. The location of the new stadium would be in a development called "The Railyards," across the Chicago River from where a new stadium for the Chicago Fire MLS team will be located.

The current lease for the White Sox at Rate Field is set to expire after the 2029 season.
