Patriots announce status of TreVeyon Henderson ahead of Week 1

Less than a day after the New England Patriots got good news about the status of their star cornerback Christian Gonzalez for Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, they ruled out another important player for the Super Bowl rematch.

TreVeyon Henderson has been ruled out

According to the Patriots injury report, running back TreVeyon Henderson has officially been listed as OUT for Wednesday's game against Seattle. Henderson has been dealing with an ankle injury and hadn't practiced since Aug. 24.

Henderson had a solid performance in the Super Bowl against Seattle, rushing six times for 19 yards, as well as hauling in three catches for 26 yards.

What are New England's options at running back?

With Henderson being out of action on Wednesday, it will be Rhamondre Stevenson getting the bulk of the carries, much like he did last season. Behind him, though, are not many big names and not much experience.

It will likely be second-year man Corey Kiner who serves as the backup behind Stevemson. Behind Kiner, the Patriots could elevate one of Lan Larison or Hassan Haskins from their practice squad.

Knocking off Seattle will be a tall task

Without the option of Henderson in the backfield, New England's ability to avenge its Super Bowl LX loss will be even tougher.

It'll have to be an all-around team effort from Mike Vrabel's bunch if they hope to begin their season 1-0.
