Michigan Wolverines starting quarterback Bryce Underwood might be fighting for his job after an ugly Week 1 performance.

Following Michigan’s controversial 13-12 win over Western Michigan, head coach Kyle Whittingham had some interesting comments about his starting QB.

On Wednesday, Underwood was asked about those comments, although the QB didn’t see them. When he was told about the comments, he had two words: “It’s cool.”

Michigan survived with a Hail Mary touchdown pass from Underwood on the last play of the game. However, it was full of controversy after the clock appeared to hit zero, but the officials added one second, which led to the touchdown.

The MAC appealed the decision, but the NCAA issued a statement saying they can not change the outcome of a game.

Still, Underwood went just 12-of-22 for 170 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception in a sluggish performance in Week 1.

Tommy Carr, the brother of Notre Dame’s CJ Carr, has been taking some reps with the first-string offense, and Colorado State transfer Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi is another option to consider if things don’t improve.

The pressure is also on since Michigan reportedly shelled out $12 million to recruit Underwood, so there are lofty expectations in Ann Arbor.

Michigan faces the Oklahoma Sooners in Ann Arbor in Week 2 before an easier game against UTEP.
