Myles Garrett gets the meme treatment for his zero-tackle Rams debut

Myles Garrett was just out there doing cardio during his debut for the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams began the season on Thursday with a matchup against the hated rival San Francisco 49ers at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Australia. It was not much of a fight though as the 49ers ending up cruising to a 27-7 victory over the Rams on the strength of three touchdowns to three diferent receivers by San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy.

Garrett, the new Rams star defensive end, had a particularly ineffective night as well. He somehow finished his Rams debut with zero sacks, zero QB hits, and zero tackles at all.

The unbelievably poor debut by Garrett led to a parade of memes at his expense over social media. Many joked about Garrett’s former team, the Cleveland Browns, while others mentioned how overmatched Garrett looked against 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams.

The two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Garrett, 30, arrived on the Rams over the summer in a blockbuster trade with the Browns. Expectations are very high for Garrett in Los Angeles, especially after he set an all-time NFL single-season record with 23 sacks for Cleveland last year.

But Garrett was in and out of the game against the 49ers on Thursday, looking gassed and seemingly still affected by a knee injury that kept him sidelined for most of training camp. That completely flat debut for the Rams will probably end up giving more fuel to the detractors that Garrett had on his way out of Cleveland.
