Blue Jays' bullpen has stepped up during pivotal stretch

Miles has provided manager John Schneider with flexibility as he's pitched as both an opener and in bulk out of the pen. This season he's sporting an exceptional 6-2 record with a 2.71 ERA. 

His consistency has made him a highly impactful arm who has dominated with a barrel rate of 3.6% that sits in the 96th percentile. As a reliable force, Schneider believes that he has the tools to be a starter in the rotation next season. 

On Saturday, Schneider discussed the rookie pitcher's plans with Blue Jays reporter Keegan Matheson, saying, "I think the potential is there to be a starter. He’s got the weapons to be a starter.” As a Rule 5 draft pick, Miles has surpassed expectations and has been a critical arm for the Blue Jays this season. 

But in terms of back-end relievers, Varland and Rogers have been a dynamic duo in terms of stabilizing the Blue Jays' bullpen in late-game rallies. Rogers has now lowered his ERA to 1.73 on the season with 32 holds. But his efficiency this season merits more recognition, as his ground-ball rate of 64.3% sits in the 100th percentile. 

When it comes to Varland, he's been an electric closer for the Blue Jays, who recently reached a new franchise milestone. He successfully recorded 32 saves out of 33 opportunities, joining elite company by tying former Blue Jay Tom Henke.
