Chiefs' injury report has bittersweet news ahead of Week 2

The Kansas City Chiefs got a big win in the season opener, but they're still not in the clear as they look to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.

Rookie first-round pick Mansoor Delane missed most of the game with a shoulder injury, and 2025 first-rounder Josh Simmons was out with a back injury.

Now, with a home date with the Indianapolis Colts up next, Andy Reid's team will have some of their banged-up stars on the field, but others are still out.

According to Reid, Delane and Chris Jones (calf) should be a full go, but safety Chamarri Conner and Simmons are still on the shelf.

Mansoor Delane expected to play in Week 2, but Josh Simmons likely won't

“As far as injuries go, Chamarri (Conner) and Josh (Simmons) most likely will be listed as out,” Reid said (h/t Sports Illustrated).  “Delane practiced today. Chris Jones did a little bit today too. I think we’ll be okay there.”

Conner's absence is big, but not as big as Simmons', given the Chiefs' depth in the secondary.

Even Delane looked solid in limited action in his debut, picking off Bo Nix on the opening drive.

As for Simmons, the Chiefs had to turn to undrafted rookie free agent Kahlil Benson, a former right tackle, as Patrick Mahomes' blindside protector.

He aced his first challenge of the season against one of the toughest pass-rushing defenses in the game, but one can only wonder whether he can keep it up for much longer.

The Chiefs desperately need their starting left tackle back, but given how coy they've been with the updates, he may be out for a while.
