Extending Ryan Warsofsky makes sense for Sharks early in Macklin Celebrini era

San Jose Sharks could be poised for a playoff run in 2026-27 

Now with Warsofsky feeling more comfortable and Celebrini looking to continue elevating his game in his third NHL season, many believe the Sharks are poised to take that next step during the 2026-27 campaign. After finishing just outside the playoff picture last year - San Jose was 39-35-8 for 86 points - the next logical way to move forward is to get into the playoffs.

One sure way to swing the four points that were the difference between the Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings, who put up 90 points and got in as the final entrant from the Western Conference's Pacific Division, is to find more production from either Celebrini, which would squarely make him the best in the world, or from the rest of the team. 

In 2025-26, Celebrini recorded 45 goals, 70 assists and 115 points while playing in all 82 games. As a rookie, he had 32 goals for 64 points in 70 games when the Sharks were the worst team in hockey with only 52 total team points at the end of the season.
