Boise State's Spencer Danielson on Western Michigan: 'They are an undefeated football team'

The Boise State Broncos and, specifically, head coach Spencer Danielson know exactly what they have in store this weekend.

Up next on the schedule in Week 4 are the Western Michigan Broncos.

On paper, this is a game featuring two teams named the Broncos with 2-1 records.

Danielson seems to understand that Western Michigan has played like an undefeated team, though.

By now, the Week 1 controversy of the Michigan Wolverines getting an extra second on the clock after WMU essentially came into the Big House and pulled off one of the biggest upsets in college football history has become college football lore.

The MAC tried to change the ruling, to no avail, and though the Broncos have been playing nice about the whole thing, there's little doubt that they should be 3-0 and ranked in the Top 25 of the nation.

That's why Boise and Danielson seem wary of their Bronco brethren from the MAC.

"They are an undefeated football team — period, end of story. ... You watch that game, they absolutely beat Michigan at Michigan. That's not hype. That's what happened," Danielson said, per B.J. Rains of 247Sports.

For what it's worth, Danielson isn't blowing smoke, either. While the FBS Oversight Committee did confirm that it couldn't change the outcome of the game against Michigan, it did confirm that Western should have won the game.

"The committee consulted with national officiating leadership regarding the instant replay protocols. Based on that information, the committee agreed that the instant replay protocols were not followed in the contest’s second-to-last play. Had the protocols been followed, the outcome of the game would have been different," the committee wrote on Sept. 16.

Western Michigan should be 3-0 heading into game with Boise State

That extra second allowed Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood the chance to heave a Hail Mary one more time, and that connection with receiver JJ Buchanan saved then-No. 16 Michigan from a massive upset loss.

In another sign that everyone knows Western should have been 1-0 with that massive win over Michigan under its belt, the Wolverines actually fell to unranked in the national rankings after that win.

In the meantime, Western went on to beat Monmouth, 41-14, in Week 2 and then Rice, 28-21, in Week 3.

The WMU Broncos are led by junior quarterback Broc Lowry, who has thrown for 417 yards and four touchdowns this season with no interceptions. He's also rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on 36 carries.
