The San Francisco 49ers' wide receiver room suffered another injury setback this weekend. The team fears Demarcus Robinson suffered a high-ankle sprain against the Miami Dolphins and could miss time.
The setback follows a Week 1 injury to promising rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling, who is expected to miss about 10 weeks after undergoing ankle surgery. The 49ers are also without Ricky Pearsall for the season after he underwent knee surgery during training camp.
Mike Evans also exited Sunday's game with a hip injury, though it's believed to be minor.
When asked after the game if Evans' injury appeared serious, head coach Kyle Shanahan responded, "No, it didn't. It can always change tomorrow, but if the game was different, he would've been able to come back in."
Additionally, San Francisco is without free-agent addition Christian Kirk, who began the season on injured reserve with a calf injury and will miss the first four games.
The 49ers are no strangers to dealing with injuries, and this season has been no different. Shanahan acknowledged the team may need more depth at wide receiver, though he suggested the addition could come from the practice squad.
However, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report has another idea, urging the 49ers to trade for Pro Bowl wide receiver Jerry Jeudy of the Cleveland Browns.
"With a laundry list of injuries at wideout, the 49ers need a long-term fit at the position," Moton wrote. "Play-calling head coach Kyle Shanahan may be able to resurrect Jerry Jeudy's career."
Jeudy showed he could be an impact player in 2024, recording career highs with 1,229 receiving yards and 90 receptions while adding four touchdowns. However, his production dipped significantly last season, when he finished with 50 catches for 602 yards and two touchdowns.
Through two games this season, Jeudy has just two receptions for 26 yards on five targets and did not record a catch in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Still, Moton believes he could help the 49ers.
"Jeudy is only two years removed from a Pro Bowl year in which he caught 90 passes for 1,229 yards and four touchdowns," Moton wrote. "Still in his prime, the 27-year-old can be an asset to the 49ers' injury-riddled receiver unit."
With several receivers dealing with injuries, the 49ers may need additional depth. Whether that leads to a trade for a proven veteran such as Jeudy remains to be seen.
