Alex Bregman posts gnarly photo update after getting hit in face by foul ball

Alex Bregman has provided Chicago Cubs fans with an update after getting hit in the face by a foul ball during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cubs slugger was on deck with Michael Busch batting in the top of the 4th inning at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Busch checked his swing on a 97-mph fastball, but the ball still hit his bat and bounced foul. The ball clocked Bregman, standing a few feet away from the batter’s box, squarely in the face.

Blood quickly began dripping from Bregman’s nose, forcing him to leave the game early as the Cubs went on to win 9-1 without him.

Bregman uploaded a photo update on his Instagram story later in the day, and the aftermath was far worse than most probably imagine.

“Thanks for all the messages yall. I’ll be back,” Bregman captioned his post

The ball that hit Bregman lost some of its speed after bouncing off the dirt. One can only imagine what kind of damage it might have done had it hit Bregman directly off the bat.

“It’s the left cheekbone, essentially, under the eye,” Counsell said, via Bleed Cubbie Blue’s Al Yellon. “I don’t know anything more than that right now. He had a cut under his eye. He was bleeding from his nose a little bit. He’s pretty swollen.”

Bregman underwent X-rays and a CT scan, but the team has yet to release any results.
