Seahawks share massive Sam Darnold injury update

Sam Darnold was injured during the Seattle Seahawks' Week 1 game against the New England Patriots, and we missed all of Week 2. But signs are pointing in the right direction for him to make a return in Week 3, for the team's matchup against the Washington Commanders.

On Thursday, the Seahawks officially upgraded Darnold from a limited participant to a full participant for the day's practice. That was a big step toward Darnold being ready to take the field again.

Brady Henderson of ESPN shared the news on X, stating, "Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold progressed to a full participant today after he was limited yesterday in his first practice since injuring his glute in the season opener."

The team confirmed the news by sharing their official injury report.

What does this mean for the Seahawks?

While it's not 100% certain that Darnold will be back on Sunday, it's certainly shaping up to be trending in that direction. So, what does this mean for the Seahawks?

Of course, it means getting back the quarterback who led them to the Super Bowl. It was lucky for the team to have an easier opponent in Week 2, when Darnold was out, against the Arizona Cardinals. Now, the Seahawks will obviously have more difficult opponents ahead, and if Darnold is already back to being a full participant at practice, that means he's ready.

The Seahawks have also been fortunate in that their backup quarterback really worked out. Drew Lock had two solid games with the team in Darnold's absence, winning both the season opener over the Patriots and Week 2 against the Cardinals. For the 37-7 win over the Cardinals, Lock finished by completing 19 of 26 passes for 235 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
