
Victor Wembanyama is a unique NBA superstar and not only because he is listed at 7-foot-4. The San Antonio Spurs star is not afraid to speak out on issues outside of basketball and spent some time with Shaolin monks last offseason.
That explains his recent comments speaking out against any sort of potential partnership with one of the many sports betting companies out there.
Spurs reporter Jared Weiss shared video of Wembanyama being asked if he would ever sign a deal with a sports betting company. The player's answer was firm.

"Absolutely not, I would never do that," he said in response. "Honestly, I think it's very sad to see some players promote it."
Weiss went on to share another quote from Wembanyama explaining more on his stance against such an endorsement deal.
“Obviously, we earn millions and millions," Wembanyama said. "This is not our biggest strength. Our biggest strength is inspiring, and we can inspire in a good way or a bad way. I want to inspire in a good way. That’s the strongest thing I can do.”

This is a strong statement at a time when sports betting companies and prediction markets continue to be advertised both in NBA arenas and on game broadcasts.
Instead, Wembanyama is focused on inspiring fans. That sets him apart from some of his fellow stars in the league. For example, Weiss notes that LeBron James has a deal with Polymarket, and Giannis Antetokounmpo is signed with Kalshi.
