A day that started with the aftermath of the Joey Porter Jr. trade for Pittsburgh Steelers fans ended by watching their team struggle all night against the rival Cleveland Browns.
And just days after it appeared as if Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers offense found a rhythm in a win over another AFC North rival, they failed to find any semblance of chemistry when facing a stout Browns defense. Cleveland's 27-24 win over Pittsburgh sends Todd Monken's group to the top of the division and Mike McCarthy's team to the bottom, at least until the weekend gets underway.
Giving up fewer than 25 points for the third straight game, and 20 until the final minutes of the fourth quarter, the Browns defense, led in tackles by Carson Schwesinger, brought pressure all game long. Cleveland sacked Rodgers five times and only allowed 361 yards.
The defensive line and linebackers gave Rodgers little time to work and made sure to make every tackle in front of them. And the secondary stepped up, too. Rodgers did finish one yard shy of reaching 300 through the air, but a significant amount of it was during a late comeback attempt by the Steelers. He also tossed two interceptions, one to Denzel Ward and another by Grant Delpit off a deep throw to lock up the win.

Any defense playing like the Browns unit has been will give their team a chance to win every week, though they can't afford to get leaky toward the end of games.
Just as important as the defense, a group most expected to be the strength of Cleveland, Watson continued showing flashes of the quarterback the Browns thought they were trading for ahead of the 2022 season.
Watson showed a mature composure, most notably when he put Andre Szmyt in position to kick a game-winning 56-yard field goal. The three-time Pro Bowler who has endured injuries, being wrapped in controversy and poor play during most of his time in Cleveland until this season, went 24-of-33 for 268 yards with a touchdown and a pick. He also ran for 22 yards on seven carries.

Seeing the field well, Watson even got seven different receivers involved with a reception, most notably Denzel Boston with a team-leading 89 yards and Jerry Jeudy catching three big passes for 36 yards to move the chains in the fourth quarter.
It's now up to the 3-1 Browns to keep this up and not make their early-season success just an afterthought late in the fall and into the winter. And as for the 2-2 Steelers, it's time for Mike McCarthy to go back to drawing board to get things fixed before his debut campaign with his hometown team snowballs out of control.
