The New York Yankees are down 2-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS, and Aaron Boone is rolling with Max Fried for Game 3 on Wednesday.
However, Fried’s girlfriend, Reni Meyer-Whalley, is expecting the couple’s first child, but Fried addressed that and said he will start Game 3 either way.
“I’ve got a really supportive family that that understands that this is my job, and it’s not going to affect what happens tomorrow,” Fried said.
Fried’s girlfriend is expected to have the baby any day, but the Yankees star has made it clear that he will pitch regardless.
Max Fried confirms that his family is expecting a child to be born soon: "I’d not like to get too into the personal stuff, but that’s true…it’s not going to affect what happens tomorrow." https://t.co/LU6OA3uQ4j

The couple reportedly lives together in Manhattan, and Game 3 is in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium.
Fried had a 5-5 record with a 2.80 ERA this season in 20 appearances, as he missed time due to an injury. However, he got the nod in Game 2 of the wild-card series against the Boston Red Sox, and he went six innings while allowing just one run on three hits in the win.
Gerrit Cole and Cam Schlittler started the first two games of the series, and the only option outside of Fried was going to be Carlos Rodon.
