White Sox hit a historic mark unlike any other in MLB history in win against the Guardians

The Chicago White Sox just keep on finding ways to win in the 2026 MLB playoffs. They need just one more win against the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Division Series to move on to the next round after securing another win in enemy territory on Monday.

In Game 2 of the Cleveland series, the White Sox earned a 4-3 comeback victory at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Once again, the White Sox got creative with their pitching usage, and it paid off with a win and a place in history.

“The @whitesox are the only MLB team in the modern era to have their bullpen pitch 5.0+ innings, strike out 5+ batters & earn the win in 4 consecutive games (reg or post),” OptaSTATS shared on X.

This time around, Anthony Kay started for the White Sox and got into trouble early, leading to a very early exit. He gave up two runs on a hit and a walk in just 1/3 of an inning.

Sean Newcomb replaced Kay and pitched 2.0 innings before Sean Burke took over and steadied the ship for Chicago. Burke was at the core of it all, and he went 5 1/3 innings,  giving up just one earned run on a hit and a walk while striking out six.

Grant Taylor closed it out for Chicago, preventing the Guardians from scoring over 1 1/3 innings to earn the save.

Using openers and throwing several arms may not be the most ideal pitching strategy in the playoffs, but it is undeniably paying off for Chicago, which remains undefeated through four postseason games, all coming on the road.

The White Sox came back from a 2-0 deficit in Game 2 to take the win, and they will look to finish the series in Game 3 on Wednesday at Rate Field in Chicago, Ill.
