Joe Davis was not on the call for Tuesday’s pivotal NLDS game as he was apparently a little unwell.
Davis missed Game 3 of the NLDS between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park in Atlanta, Ga. Kenny Albert instead filled in as the play-by-play man for FOX Sports alongside color commentator John Smoltz.
Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reports that Davis was feeling under the weather and had even lost his voice. Marchand did add though that Davis was considered to be “day-to-day.”
The 38-year-old Davis is the lead play-by-play announcer for the Dodgers on Spectrum SportsNet LA. He also has extensive national duties and is the lead play-by-play man for FOX Sports during the playoffs, often times calling games for the Dodgers there as well.
Davis has drawn criticism from rival fans for seemingly being too partisan with his calls. Additionally, Davis made headlines last year for his gross admission after a Dodgers playoff game.
On Tuesday though, Davis was entirely out of commission, which was understandable given that having a voice is pretty important for a broadcaster. The Dodgers and Braves play again on Wednesday and Friday (if necessary), so Davis will have a quick turnaround time if he wants to return to the booth again for the remainder of the series.
