Yankee fan who interfered with Game 3 home run had interesting reaction

The New York Yankees fan who was responsible for interfering with an Anthony Volpe fly ball might have been the happiest person in Yankee Stadium during Wednesday’s controversial game.

Video from the stands showed the group of fans responsible for reaching over and catching Volpe’s fly ball celebrating wildly in the immediate aftermath of the play, which was initially ruled a home run on the field. Even as the rest of the stadium groaned in concern at a replay showing the fan reaching over the wall, the group continued celebrating wildly.

Even if the fan wasn’t necessarily trying to help the Yankees, he certainly did so in the moment, and he seemed to know it. At that point, he was convinced the Yankees had just tied the game.

Ultimately, the call on the field was overturned, and Volpe was made to stay at second base. The play still led to a run, but the Yankees ultimately lost 4-3, and the fan was removed from his seat.

This group of fans was nowhere near as coordinated as one group that inserted themselves into the 2024 World Series. Ultimately, neither game ended well for New York, or for the fans involved.
